Michael Brein's Travel Guides

Michael Brein’s Travel Guides FAQs

Q. What is unique about Michael Brein’s guides?
A.
This is the world’s first & only travel guide series to sightseeing by public transportation.

Q. What is the purpose of this series?
A.
To show you exactly how to go to the top 50 visitor attractions in the world’s most popular cities by public transit.

Q. Some public transit systems are scary & intimidating.
A.
My guides simplify public transit. Another name for my series could have been, “Public Transportation Made Simple!”

Q. Do the guides include the complete transit systems?
A.
No, only what you need is included.

Q. What else is included?
A.
Ultra-large, easy-to-read official maps of the transit systems.

Q. Can’t I just download free maps off the internet?
A.
My guides include detailed mini-area-maps of all the points of interest areas. These are found nowhere else!

Q. So what?
A.
These mini-area-maps show which transit lines to take, which stops to use, exits & most importantly exactly how to walk to the attractions from the nearest transit stops.

Q. What’s so good about public transportation?
A.
It’s not only the cheapest way to go, but you can travel independently, on your own, without having to take expensive taxis or tour buses. You can get around often for less than $5 a day!

Q. Do I need to buy other travel books? Aren’t your guides enough?
A.
My guides are compact, concise, comprehensive & fit in your pocket. Use alone or along with other travel books.

Q. Any other advantages?
A.
My guides are all you need when you hit the streets. Leave the heavy, bulky travel books in your hotel room!

Q. How often do you update these guides?
A.
Transit lines don’t change much; neither do the top attractions. The guides are updated as needed.

Q. In what forms are your guides available?
A.
Order them as downloadable PDF files or as pocket-sized printed versions. A CD-Rom with all the PDFs is also available.

Q. What is the advantage of each?
A.
If you’re comfortable viewing the PDF files on your computer, it’s the quickest way to get them. If you want a copy to take with you, it’s best to order the print versions.

Q. Can’t I print out the pdf file?
A.
Since everyone’s printer setup is different, it’s not recommended to print out the complete file; only the mini-area-maps that you need.

Q. Do I need to buy a street map & should I get the transit maps that some cities give you for free?
A.
A street map is always helpful & the free transit maps often provide additional useful information. But my guides are all you need, really.

Q. Some subways have so many exits! Will I get lost?
A.
Some subways have multiple exits. It’s impossible to include them all, so some re-orientation may be necessary. But my guides give you reference points to help.

Q. Do you go to all these cities yourself to do these guides?
A.
My motto is: “Somebody’s got to do it; it might as well be me!”

Q. What goes into the preparation of these guides?
A.
As simple as they seem to be, 100’s of hours go into each one! Many more times than I’d like to admit: “I get lost so that yee may be found!”

“Your Metro Map was the envy of my entire tour group. It made underground travel easy, and I certainly wouldn't leave home without one on any future trip.”
